About Maria

María Moreno is a brilliant and accomplished flamenco dance artist. She began her dance training at the Professional Dance Conservatory of Cádiz when she was eight years old. She has worked with many of flamenco’s finest artists including Javier Latorre, Rafaela Carrasco, Antonio Canales, and Eva Yerbabuena.

María’s artistic expression is the result of pure evolution. Her body vocabulary reflects her unquestionable freedom, shaped by her reverence for flamenco tradition while applying a modernized, contemporary version of its codes. María is constantly trying to discover new surroundings, to take risks and get lost in research, to have a mature understanding of her own story while maintaining the conviction to seek out freedom.

Her artistry has touched down on theatres such as Sadler’s Wells in London, La Villette in Paris, Russia’s Tchaikovsky Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Russkaya Pesnya, as well as the New York City Center.

She is the recipient of several awards. She received the Best Newcomer Award at the Festival de Jerez in 2017 for her piece Alas del Recuerdo. In 2018, she received the Giraldillo Prize for Best Newcomer at the Bienal de Sevilla for De la Concepción, confirming María as a leading flamenco artist. At the 2020 Bienal, Moreno’s star continued to rise with the debut of the show More(No)More, which brought her a second Giraldillo – this time, the Magic Moment Award for her soleá. Also at the 2020 Bienal, María took the stage alongside Antonio Canales and Rafael Riqueni, with whom she previously toured for his album, Herencia. That same year, Yo Bailo was published, a book she coauthored, and served to enhance her show by the same title. She has also toured world music festivals with Manuel de Falla’s orchestra and the group made up of Enriki Solinís and Euskal Barrokensemble.
